Cross cultures

Thoughts of a twentysomething, French-born Chinese girl currently living in Tokyo, studying civil and structural engineering, quite fond of architecture on the one hand, and somehow tech-savvy and web-addict on the other hand.

Student visa issues in UK too

OK, well, come to think of it, I don’t see why we’re shocked by the latest events in France, because obviously it’s the same everywhere.

We should be shocked by every anti-immigration measure, then.

On a side note, I’m still thinking over the fact that studying abroad is meant to be a temporary stay for study only, and that the student is generally meant to go back home afterwards. That’s kind of what was expected when we interviewed for the Japanese gov’t scholarship (= we’d rather not say that we wanted to work in Japan afterwards). But I don’t understand the principle of educating people and sending them back: do they bring more value that way?
